In May, the tech support scam evolved. Using AI-driven search engine manipulation, scammers ensured their fake “Help Desk” numbers appeared at the top of Google results for popular software. Victims calling for help were convinced to download remote access tools. Once the scammer had control, they used “browser-in-the-browser” attacks to show a fake bank balance while they actually drained the victim’s real account in the background. This psychological manipulation remains one of the most effective tools in a fraudster’s arsenal.
