April saw the explosion of “Quishing” (QR Phishing). Scammers placed stickers over legitimate QR codes on parking meters, restaurant menus, and public charging stations. When scanned, these codes directed users to a cloned payment page that looked identical to the real service, harvesting credit card details and personal info. Because QR codes are visually indecipherable to humans, this “low-tech/high-impact” scam became a major headache for city municipalities across the country.
